Hello…I’m thrilled to assist our members’ efforts in continuing their personal growth through professional development. As a recently transferred member into Chapter 57 Inland Empire, I’ve served as your 1st and 2ndYear Professional Development Committee member. I look forward to serving in the position of 3rd year Professional Development Committee along side our Chapter colleagues Stephi Villanueva and Jim Kearns. Please look to us as a resource when pursuing Senior Member or Technical Certification status. Although I’ve been part of the IRWA since 1990, this PDC selection serves as my first official leadership role, one in which I’m eager to embrace. As an SR/WA with pending technical certification in Relocation Assistance (RW-RAC), I’m hopeful I can lend advice and support to those aspiring to achieve the same. I’ve enjoyed being part of our profession and the IRWA for the past 15 years and find the catalog of course offerings to be comprehensive, educationally friendly and content relevant. The association’s networking opportunities seem endless and equally invaluable to those of us serving in the trenches. The industry-wide friendships I’ve made are the most meaningful found anywhere. I’m encouraged with our Association’s effort toward student accessibility of coursework via online delivery in the coming years. This undoubtedly will prove to be another stimulus in encouraging our members to pursue professional credentialing and certification.

My Right-of-Way career began with CalTrans, serving 14 years in a variety of mission-related functions. Predominate rotational assignments were in Airspace Leasing & Development, Utility Relocations and as a Lead Associate for Relocation Assistance, whereby I moved and relocated 500 business and residential displacements during 8 years of freeway project certifications throughout San Diego and Imperial Counties. Interim assignments over those years included Freeway Logo-Sign Program Manager, Appraise and Acquire, Comparable Housing Valuations and Housing & Business Relocation Studies. I worked for County of Riverside as Real Property Agent for Acquisitions in 2005 and 2006, my assigned projects found me challenged yet lent a broadening of experience within the profession. Unlike the past, I routinely engaged municipalities or quasi-government agencies effecting mutually beneficial outcomes. The Economic Development Agency, Transportation Commission, Transportation and Land Management Agency, Parks and Open Space, Flood Control, County Service Areas within Tract Developments and Specialized Assessment Districts were my common counterparts in negotiations.

I’m now working for Epic Land Solutions, Inc. a full service Right-of-Way Consulting firm and look forward to new and exciting experiences. My colleagues are an eagerly professional bunch who exude enthusiasm, embrace ethics and are simply a joy to be around.

I am a graduate from the University of the State of New York with a Bachelor of Science in Liberal Arts and I possess a Masters Degree in Business Administration from National University.

I remember when I first started in Right-of-Way, our magazine advertised only 3-5 national R/W consulting firms. Anymore, it seems there are dozens of players sprouting up nationally. I echo Duncan Bush’s sentiments when he states, “this is a growth industry.” Has our industry reached critical mass? Where will you intersect the growth curve? What does professional development mean to us when navigating this competitive marketplace? What will you do to set yourself apart from the field of competitors? Can a professional designation and/or certification help? Will it hurt? NOT!

That said; anyone who remotely suspects they have an interest in pursuing a professional credential through the IRWA or would like to discuss frankly, how any of these credentials could benefit them directly, should make an immediate inquiry. If you don’t make an investment in your own human capital, who will? Start increasing your own net worth. Invest in an IRWA designation today!

I look forward to serving our chapter in 2008 as your 3rd Year PDC
