After graduating UCLA with a degree in International Political Economics & Political Science, I started my Right of Way Career 18 years ago at Caltrans’ Los Angeles or “District 7”- International Right of Way’s Region 1. Being in IRWA’s birthplace and surrounded by very experienced Right of Way Agents I began to amass my knowledge in Estimating, Acquisition, Relocation, Appraisals, Local Public Agencies, and Project Coordination.
The Century Freeway Project – Route 105 and Route 210 provided an excellent base for my relocation experience. Transferring to the San Bernardino/Riverside Caltrans’ District 8 extended my experience into Acquisition, Appraisals, Utility Relocation, and Project Oversight. I became the Project Utility Coordinator for the Riverside Area’s Design Sequencing Flagship Project –The Riverside Route 60/91/215 Interchange. This large scale, very transparent project allowed me to interface with various personnel at various levels including the local agency partners, city council, business leaders, city engineers, contractors, condemnation attorneys, and state department officials providing me with unimaginable public speaking and project presentation opportunities. I used this experience of taking large complex data and interpreting it into layman’s terms for all of my projects. Many people, including public officials are not familiar with engineering, project management, and real estate language. So, this skill became a real asset in my career. IRWA has only complimented this social skill by learning relearning processes and concepts.
The International Right of Way has provided me with extensive knowledge with their quality classes, lasting friendship in their meetings and functions, and leadership in its local chapters and Executive Committees. I look forward to serving my 2nd year as the Pipeline Committee Chairperson. And I hope to be assistance to anyone looking for help in any of my familiar disciplines. Thank you.
